According to the Military Police, the body was located by a fisherman, who saw it floating on the banks of the Batalha River, close to the local road that connects Avaí to the district of Nogueira. Cássio's wife said that she traveled on June 2 to a neighboring city, where she went to take care of her granddaughter. When she returned home, on the 5th, she realized that her husband was no longer at the property. Neighbors reported to the family that they last saw the elderly man between June 4th and 5th. According to family members, Cássio left home without a cell phone or documents. In the following weeks, relatives carried out searches in different parts of Avaí, including rural areas, as well as neighboring cities, but he had not been located. The Civil Police are investigating the case and awaiting the results of forensic examinations to clarify the circumstances of the death.
