Anita Garibaldi Bridge is closed for emergency repair in Laguna, SC The Anita Garibaldi Bridge, in Laguna, in the south of Santa Catarina, was closed due to the need for maintenance on one of the cables, declared the manager of the Via Costeira concessionaire, Fernando de Marchi. Traffic at the site was closed in both directions to carry out this work. The flow of vehicles in the south direction was blocked on Thursday night (9). "We took the option of blocking both directions of the bridge so that we can carry out this maintenance and delve deeper into studies to find out if there is any other problem with the bridge", said the manager. He highlighted that it guarantees the integrity of the structure and that the work is carried out preventively. "We blocked it so that we are able to carry out the necessary maintenance on this cable, carry out further studies, check that everything else is in order, so that, when we are able to release the bridge, it can be released in full and without any risk", he declared. The cable problem was identified during an inspection this week. Technicians will analyze the structure to try to find out what caused the cable problem. "We believe it is a one-off problem, which maintenance will resolve. But, even so, we want to guarantee it, which is why we blocked traffic on the bridge and carried out new studies. With the results of these studies, we can make a decision, find out if everything is OK or if new maintenance will be necessary", he explained. Even though the work is expected to last 10 days, the manager highlighted that the release of traffic will depend on engineering studies on site. With 2.8 kilometers long along BR-101, the structure opened in 2015 is considered one of the city's main postcards and an engineering landmark as it is one of the largest curved cable-stayed bridges in Brazil.
