She was indicted last Friday (10) for the crime of embezzlement, in Colombo, in the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba. Investigations into the case were reopened in early June, after members of a prayer group in Paraná recognized the woman when she was arrested in Santa Catarina for pretending to be a 12-year-old teenager. They say they were also victimized by her when, in 2021, she posed as a 13-year-old girl with terminal cancer and took money from them. Understand below. ? According to the Civil Police, the police team investigated the situation, but, at that time, it was not possible to determine who was responsible for the crime. With the emergence of new information from the arrest in Santa Catarina, the Civil Police summoned the Colombo victims to carry out the suspect recognition procedure. The woman, identified as Amanda Maria Souza de Oliveira, told the family from Santa Catarina that her name was "Gabriele". For the people of Paraná, she used the name "Emily". During interrogation, Amanda denied the crimes accused of her in Colombo, according to the Civil Police. g1 sought the woman's defense, but had no response until the last update of this report. Personal Archive Suspect approached the victims saying she was in a terminal phase In the case involving the prayer group, Amanda would have spent around ten months telling stories of illness, abandonment, violence and family loss. The victims claim that they only became suspicious when she started asking for money. "We had a prayer group at the time of Covid and we met online. Then she came up, saying that she was a 13-year-old child, who was terminally ill, and she wanted us to pray for her to die, because her mother lived in the hospital on her own, and she wanted to die so that her mother could rest. We were astonished: how can a 13-year-old child ask to die? So we got involved in this story", said one of the victims, who did not want to be identified. The woman even got the name "Emily" tattooed on her wrist after creating a strong emotional bond with the supposed teenager. The tattoo was removed after the scam was discovered. "First she asked me to be godmother, because, as she was dying, she wanted to enter heaven, and, to enter heaven, she had to be baptized. When her mother dies, she says: 'Since my mother died, can I call you mother?'", details the victim. "It was very cruel to me, my sister-in-law had just passed away. What I lost in life, emotionally, psychologically, no one will restore. She called my sons brother. My children called her sister and recorded videos and audios for her every day. When I remember that I stopped holding my niece in my arms, – who was my brother's daughter who no longer had a mother –, because of this bandit. And if they let her go now, she will cause more victims", she says. She said that she needed a bone marrow transplant, reported the death of her mother after a car accident and stated that she had started to live with her father and grandmother. Afterwards, she said that she had suffered attacks, that her father had committed crimes against her and that he had ended up taking his own life. Upon her new admission, 'Emily' reported that she had been raped in the hospital and that she had to have one of her arms amputated, due to the worsening of her illness", details the criminal report that communicated the case to the authorities. The stories caused a strong commotion and caused the members to become increasingly emotionally involved with the suspect. Over the months, she avoided face-to-face meetings and always found justifications for not being seen. The farce began to fall apart when Amanda started asking the participants for money. Suspicious, they looked for hospitals mentioned by her and found no hospitalization records. When pressed, she admitted that she was not a sick child, but an adult woman who had invented the whole story. According to the Civil Police of Santa Catarina, she lived for 14 months in a family's home after claiming to have fled mistreatment in Pará. The minutes of the custody hearing show that the person being investigated approached the family through a church pastor. As time went by, however, she began to report health problems and financial difficulties, which motivated the couple to temporarily take her into their home. After gaining the family's trust, the woman would have changed her version, claiming to be only 11 years old and claiming to have been a victim of abuse. The couple then became sensitive and allowed her to move in with them. Believing in her vulnerable childhood condition, her father and mother even organized a 12th birthday party for the girl to celebrate her supposed birthday. The investigation shows that the suspect carried out similar scams in at least seven other states. In a statement to the Santa Catarina Civil Police, Amanda Maria Souza de Oliveira confessed to having carried out the same scam in five other states: Paraná, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Goiás and Ceará. A case in Natal (RS) also came to light. In Santa Catarina, the investigations were concluded and she became a defendant for the crimes of false identity and embezzlement.
