7-year-old boy from Imperatriz beats cancer after liver transplant donated by his mother In Imperatriz, 626 km from São Luís, 7-year-old boy Vinícius Divino beat cancer after receiving a transplant with part of the liver donated by his mother, Edirlene Divino. Over the course of seven months of treatment, the family faced several difficulties and today, with the boy cured, they returned home. According to Vinícius's mother, the boy began to show signs that something was not right, he went to two first consultations, and the family was diagnosed with a virus. Only in the third evaluation, in October last year, was the cancer confirmed. After tests, he was diagnosed with hepatoblastoma, a rare malignant tumor of the liver. The family had to seek treatment outside of Maranhão so that the transplant could be carried out. "We were transferred to Goiânia and, when we got there, there was no specialist either, there was no hospital to assist and perform this transplant. That's where we were transferred to Curitiba", said the mother, Edirlene Divino. ? At the same hospital, the medical team preserved biological material from another surgery and opened the possibility of carrying out the transplant with part of a compatible liver, which was donated by the mother herself. The surgery was a success and Vinícius should be monitored by doctors for the next five years. "Seeing my son walking again was a huge emotion, because I thought he wasn't even going to walk again. He became very weak, he turned purple all over", reported Edirlene Divino, nursing technician. According to the family, it took seven months and twenty days between the discovery of the disease, the trip to Curitiba and the return home. Upon returning to Maranhão, Vinícius was welcomed with a party at Imperatriz airport and also visited the school where he studies. He is currently recovering at home, with his family and in the company of his brother. "I feel happy, excited and happy that he is here with me. And happy because I can play with him, walk with him and have fun", said Vinícius' brother, Inácio Divino. 7-year-old boy from Imperatriz beats cancer after liver transplant donated by his mother Reproduction/TV Mirante
