Meet the duo Calema, who performed with Anitta and are coming to Rock in Rio This weekend, Anitta performed the first edition of "Ensaios de Anitta" in Europe. The premiere took place in Lisbon and featured some special appearances, such as the duo Calema, who will come to Brazil in September to open Rock in Rio's Sunset Stage, on September 6th. "We want to say a huge thank you to our dear friend Anitta for this invitation, an excellent show she gave in Portugal", wrote the duo, on social media, after the presentation. But Anitta is not the first Brazilian to sing alongside Calema. Born in São Tomé and Príncipe, the duo formed by brothers Fradique Mendes Ferreira, 39, and António Mendes Ferreira, 34, has already recorded with Dilsinho and Lauana Prado. "Xê Dama", a partnership with Lauana Prado, hit the market in May. In an interview with g1, the two said that they still plan a partnership with Pedro Sampaio. "The objective is this: to do more collaborations with Brazilian artists, Portuguese-speaking artists, we make sure that music sung in Portuguese reaches everywhere", said António after a performance in Lisbon. Who is Calema? Calema lota Rock in Rio Lisboa Disclosure Fradique and António Mendes Ferreira formed Calema in 2008, when they headed to Portugal. The duo makes contemporary pop, combining afro pop, kizomba and R&B. The sound even reminds us a little of Luan Santana on some tracks. The danceable beat with passionate lyrics usually rocks crowds at shows in Portugal. At Rock in Rio Lisboa, for example, they opened the main stage, early in the afternoon, with Parque Tejo already packed to see them. Before appearing in Portugal, Calema participated in the French version of "The Voice", but did not make it past the blind audition stage. Today, they are part of The Voice Portugal's team of mentors. "The Brazilian audience, based on the experience we have had since we were little, in the DVDs we watch, is an audience that has very good energy," said Fradique, when talking about the expectation of his debut in Brazil. "As we have never done a show in Brazil, I think there will also be an audience that likes music and dancing. So, we are looking forward to this moment happening", he added. For those who plan to learn a little more about Calema's sound before the performance, the brothers point to the song "Te amo" as a good way to tell their story. And they still leave a message for Brazilians. "We knew Brazil long before being in Brazil. So, we experienced Brazil before we even tried any food there in Brazil. We went there last year for the first time and since then we've never stopped going. So, just give us this little time to hear a little about our story. It's going to be a historic day", said Fradique. "We are looking forward to being able to sing for Brazilians, sharing our history and our music", added António.
