The photo above shows Gal Costa (1945 – 2022) alongside three of the greatest Brazilian football stars of all time – Roberto Rivelino (on the left), Jair Ventura Filho, Jairzinho (in a suit) and Carlos Alberto Torres (1944 – 2016) – in December 1985 at an event held in Rio de Janeiro (RJ) to launch the advertising campaign “70 on them!”. Produced by a cigarette company, the campaign presented Gal – then at the height of his popularity with the recent album “Bem bom” (1985), promoted with the ballad “Um dia de Domingo” – as the voice of the Brazilian team in the upcoming 1986 World Cup, which would be played in Mexico. To encourage the Brazilian team to win its fourth championship, Gal took to the field 40 years ago with the recording of a new jingle composed by Antônio Edgard Gianullo and Vicente de Paula Salvia. With a title alluding to the conquest of Brazil's third title in the 1970 World Cup, held in the same Mexico, the march “70 them” was recorded by Gal with musical production by Guti Carvalho and released in 1986. Published as a separate single, in addition to being broadcast in the cigarette brand's advertisement shown on TV, the recording of “70 in them” was later included in Gal Costa's collection in the series “Focus”, produced by Adriana Ramos in 1999 for the record label BMG. As we know, despite encouragement from Gal and the fans, the tetra's dream ended up being postponed with the elimination of the Brazilian team by France in the quarterfinals. However, the recording of the “70 in them” march remained in the history of Gal Costa and the World Cups. ?
