Elza Soares (1930 – 2022) is portrayed in the cover art of the album 'Vivo Feliz' (2003), in which she released the samba-rap 'Rio de Janeiro' Reproduction ? NEWS ? Over the course of her 64-year recording career, Elza Soares (1930 – 2002) recorded two sambas entitled “Rio de Janeiro”, of different styles, but both composed for to extol the city where the Rio singer, owner of one of the most expressive voices in the world, was born. The first samba-exaltation was “Rio de Janeiro” composed by Guinga with Aldir Blanc (1946 – 2020), presented 30 years ago on the album by pianist Sergio Mendes (1941 – 2024), “Oceano” (1996), and re-recorded by Elza on the album “Trajetória” (1997). The second samba “Rio de Janeiro” in the singer’s discography is a samba-rap written by Anderson Lugão released by the singer in 2003 on the album “Vivo Feliz”, an electronic architecture album recorded by Elza with musical production by Arthur Joly. It is this phonographic record from 2003 – whose rap part evokes the recording of the samba-rap-funk “Rio 40degrees” (Fernanda Abreu, Carlos Laufer and Fausto Fawcett, 1992) by singer Fernanda Abreu – that reverberates, 23 years after its release, in the soundtrack of the next 7pm soap opera on TV Globo, “Por Você”, which premieres on August 17th. Since the first appearances of the soap opera, Elza Soares' ebullient singing in “Rio de Janeiro” has been propagated throughout Brazil, revitalizing a recording that went unnoticed because, despite the power of the album “Vivo Feliz”, one of the most underrated titles in Elza Soares' discography, this work achieved little repercussion. Perhaps because it was released just a year after the acclaimed “From the coccix to the neck” (2002), this is an album that had great repercussion, especially in the media, and had a lot of influence on Elza Soares’ later career.
