Internet users began to discuss whether the use of the characterization, during the tour's shows, could be interpreted as simple tributes or whether it would be religious disrespect. One of the profiles said: "I would be ashamed. Religion is not fantasy. This is already appropriation."
Some people who identified themselves as practicing African-based religions agreed with the criticism. They argued that sacred symbols should not be treated as fantasy. Other users, however, defended the fan. They argued that the intention would be to celebrate the aesthetics and spirituality present in the singer's work.
