According to Anfavea, the main growth was in the automobile segment, whose sales increased 23.7%, with 208 thousand units more than in the first half of last year. The heavy vehicle segment, such as trucks and buses, continues to recover more slowly.
In the semester, truck sales fell 10.5%, while buses recorded a drop of 11.6%. And, although in the month of June both segments presented better results than last year, the performance was still not enough to reverse the expectation of another year of contraction.
As for registrations, growth was 18.5% in the first half of the year, with 1.42 million vehicles sold. In June, 272.5 thousand units were sold, an increase of 28% compared to June last year.
Expectations for the year
With the performance above expectations in the first half of the year, especially in vehicle sales in the domestic market, Anfavea decided to revise upwards its growth expectations for the year.
Now, the association said it expects Brazil to close the year 2026 surpassing the mark of 3 million registered vehicles, a level that has not been reached since 2014. If this projection is confirmed, says the entity, growth will be 12.1% in relation to 2025, well above the 2.7% predicted at the beginning of the year.
The forecast for the year related to production went from 3.7% to 5.8%, with an expectation of 2.8 million vehicles produced.
Exports and imports
Despite the positive scenario, exports continue to show no sign of recovery in the semester, with a drop of 21.2% compared to the same period last year, totaling 216.6 thousand units exported. Considering only the month of June, the decline was 26.7% compared to June last year, with 36.7 thousand units exported.
Imports, in turn, totaled 280.6 thousand units, which represented an increase of 22.8% in the first half of the year. In June, 57 thousand units were imported, an increase of 49.3% compared to June last year.
