Sales of electric vehicles in Brazil triple in the 1st half

The Brazilian automotive market's hunger for electric vehicles (EVs) remains great and increasing. Data released by the National Vehicle Distribution Federation (Fenabrave) on Thursday (2/7) show an increase in registrations of 100% electric cars in the first half of 2026, with 90,470 new vehicles, which represents almost triple the number of registrations registered in the same period last year (30,534).

Sales of hybrid vehicles, which use electric and combustion engines, also grew significantly. They jumped from 83,468, in the first half of 2025, to 154,472 in the first six months of this year, an increase of 85%.

“Hybrid cars have had significant acceptance in the national market and represent the largest volume among electrified cars”, highlights Arcelio Junior, president of Fenabrave, to g1. Regarding the reasons for the expansion, he highlights federal programs to CNN Brasil, such as Move Brasil Táxi e Applications. “Certainly [the programs] encourage the sale of these [electrified] models for up to R$150,000, which is one of the requirements”, he highlights.

Also considering combustion models, according to Fenabrave, 1.42 million new vehicles were registered in Brazil in the 1st half of the year – an increase of 18% compared to the same period last year. As highlighted by Valor, the increase was driven by passenger cars, whose sales grew by more than 23% in the period. On the other hand, truck and bus sales shrank by just over 9%. Market expectations for the remainder of 2026 are positive, with an increase of almost 8% in sales compared to 2025.

Correio Braziliense also shared the figures for the electrified automobile market in Brazil in the 1st half of the year.
