Cold front, rain and drop in temperatures: highlights of the weather forecast

After days of storms in the south of Brazil, Rio Grande do Sul will have a break in the rain this Thursday (24), but attention still remains focused on high river levels.

According to Climatempo, the cold front is advancing through the state of São Paulo, maintaining instability in Mato Grosso do Sul and favoring a drop in temperatures in part of the Center-South. At the same time, dry weather continues to predominate in inland areas of the country, with low humidity and risk of fires.

South

This Thursday, the cold front advances further towards the state of São Paulo, but the flow of moisture associated with the movement of the system still maintains conditions for rain of moderate to heavy intensity in the extreme north of Paraná since the early hours of the day.

The presence of a low pressure area close to the coast of the South Region favors rain showers during the early hours of the morning on the coastal strip of Santa Catarina and on the North Coast, Serra Gaúcha and the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre, weak to moderate, with thunderstorms.

Throughout the day, rain conditions improve in the region, but the circulation of maritime humidity still favors precipitation on the coastal strip.

Between the end of the afternoon and the night, rain showers increase in the northwest of Santa Catarina due to the action of a trough in the middle levels of the atmosphere.

In much of the region, the weather remains more stable throughout the day, with a predominance of sun among some clouds and milder temperatures after the passage of the frontal system, due to the action of a mass of polar air that advances behind the cold front.

The day also remains pleasant in Paraná and Santa Catarina, especially on the east coast of the region and in the south of Rio Grande do Sul.

Attention in Rio Grande do Sul: despite the reduction in rainfall, river levels remain high and still require attention for hydrological impacts.

Southeast

In the Southeast, the atmospheric blockage begins to lose strength, favoring a gradual increase in cloudiness, mainly in the state of São Paulo.

Despite this, most of the region still has firm weather and no significant rain is expected.

Since the early hours of the day, rain has occurred in the west, southwest and south of São Paulo due to the approach and advancement of the cold front, with moderate to heavy rainfall forecast in these areas, also advancing towards the central region of the state.

Instabilities also affect the northeast, east, coast and Metropolitan Region of São Paulo, remaining concentrated in the center-south and west of São Paulo throughout the day.

The action of a trough at medium levels of the atmosphere reinforces instabilities, mainly in the west and southwest of the state, where there is a risk of isolated storms, in addition to the south of São Paulo.

The rains remain concentrated in these areas until the end of the day and also advance towards the northwest of São Paulo.

Temperatures remain high during the afternoon, although the advance of the cold front alleviates the heat in the center-south of São Paulo due to greater cloudiness.

In Rio de Janeiro, the weather changes at the end of the day, mainly in the south of the state and in the Metropolitan Region, with increased cloudiness, light rain and a drop in temperatures due to the change in winds. The same occurs in the extreme south of Minas Gerais.

Meanwhile, Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo continue to experience dry weather in most areas, maintaining low relative humidity in the Triângulo Mineiro, north, northwest, west and central region of Minas Gerais, in addition to the extreme north of São Paulo, with rates between 20% and 30%.

Midwest

In the Midwest, the weather remains predominantly firm in most of the region.

The sun appears between few clouds and relative humidity remains low during the afternoon in Goiás, the Federal District and east of Mato Grosso, especially in the west and northwest of Goiás, with rates between 12% and 20%, keeping the risk of fires high.

In Mato Grosso do Sul, in the west and in the central and southeast regions, moderate to heavy rain showers are expected from the early hours of the day, with thunderstorms, due to the advance of the cold front.

In the morning, instability is concentrated in the central and western regions and also advances to the south, southeast and east of the state throughout the day.

Until tonight, the tendency is for the intensity of rain to decrease.

Another highlight is the change in winds, which favors a drop in temperatures in the extreme south and southwest of Mato Grosso, including the region of Cuiabá, in addition to the center-south, west, northwest and central region of Mato Grosso do Sul.

Northeast

In the Northeast, the circulation of humidity continues to favor rain showers along the coastal strip between Bahia and Rio Grande do Norte.

There is a forecast of rain of light to moderate intensity and, occasionally, heavier, mainly on the northern coast of Bahia and the region of Salvador, in addition to the coast between Alagoas and Rio Grande do Norte.

The action of Eastern Wave Disturbances (DOLs) maintains the risk of storms between the north coast of Pernambuco and the coastal strip of Rio Grande do Norte, where there is a danger of high rainfall accumulations.

On the north coast, there is also a forecast of heavy rain on the coast and in the north of Maranhão and Piauí.

In the northern part of Ceará, the rain can also be heavy, while in other areas of the state it is weaker.

In the interior of the region, the weather remains firm, with a predominance of sun, heat and low relative humidity in the north and center-west of Bahia, west of Pernambuco and center-south of Maranhão and Piauí, with rates between 20% and 30%.

Wind gusts vary between 40 and 50 km/h across much of the region.

North

In the North, the tendency is for rainfall to decrease in part of the region.

In the south of Amapá, west of Amazonas and the northeast and coast of Pará, instability persists, with moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms.
