Governor Otaviano Pivetta (Republicans) stated, on Friday, that the definition of the location for the construction of the new Várzea Grande Hospital and Emergency Room is strategic and guarantees the use of a public area in the region of the former Light Rail Vehicle (VLT) project, which was paralyzed and had the contract terminated, with judicial approval, after being the target of a Federal Police operation for corruption schemes. The investment exceeds R$200 million. The unit will have around 200 beds for urgent, emergency and trauma care, will be built in an area of ??approximately 16 thousand square meters and will serve Várzea Grande and cities in the region.

The notice will be published by the end of August, in the RDC Integrated modality, in which the winning company will be responsible for the executive project and execution of the work. The future region of Marechal Rondon Airport, in the area that forms part of the layout of the old urban mobility project and which today includes structures already implemented and not fully used. The location is also inserted in a structuring axis of the municipality, with provision for road integration and connection with central regions.
"Our objective is to recover past investments and generate a positive social impact. We chose this area because it already has important public assets. It is a structure that has already been started and will be faster and more economical as well. This place will be the heart of Várzea Grande, with a structuring axis and the capacity to better serve the population", said Pivetta.
"The location is strategic and geographical. It is close to the airport, with entrance to the hospital, space for emergency care and support for air ICU. All of this facilitates the functioning and response of the health network. This sum of factors led us to make this decision", added the governor. "We have already issued the work order for the construction of the avenue in front, which will have a promenade, and the hospital will be built right below. This point connects with Cristo Rei, which is the most populous neighborhood in the region, and with the center of Várzea Grande", he added.
He also reinforced the structuring nature of the work for the municipality. “Várzea Grande will have an urgent and emergency hospital that meets what the population deserves”, he stated.
