The Public Prosecutor's Office in Mato Grosso is investigating a transaction worth almost US$500 million made between Anglo American and MMG Singapore, an Australian company with majority Chinese shareholders, which negotiated level exploration in Brazil.

The transaction carried out in 2025, according to a report from Estadão, was worth around US$500 million, which represents more than R$2.5 billion at today's exchange rate.

The investigation was opened this week by the Public Prosecutor, Erich Raphael Masson.

One of the projects negotiated is in “Morro do Boné”, in the Mato Grosso city of Comodoro, with the potential to extract 65 million tons of ore.

Other projects in Goiás and Pará were also part of the deal.

According to Ordinance No. 8 of July 14, the Federal Public Ministry's investigation aims to “investigate alleged irregularities in the sale of corporate control to the foreign group to MMG Singapore Resources Pte. Ltd. (“MMG Singapore”), which would be obtaining full rights and projects for Anglo American operations, in relation to nickel exploration in Brazil.”
