Mato Grosso consolidated its prominent position in the national economic scenario by recording a 3.5% growth in its industrial production between January and May this year. The index, revealed by IBGE's Monthly Industrial Survey and highlighted in a report by TV Centro América (TVCA) this Monday (13), places the state in the select group of the five biggest increases in the country, easily surpassing the national average of 1.4%.

More than a statistical advance, the result shows that the local industry is gaining maturity. Instead of just exporting raw resources, the state begins to transform the raw material within its own borders, generating more value and wealth internally.

The main driver of this boom was the extraction of non-metallic minerals (such as sand and gravel), which soared by almost 24% in the period.

Infrastructure and mineral strength

For state deputy Sheila Klener (PSDB), who brings the technical background of being a geologist and career employee at the State Secretariat for the Environment (Sema-MT), these numbers are a direct reflection of a state in full physical and agricultural expansion.

“This growth shows the strength of the civil construction market and, mainly, of road paving works, which are extremely hot in Mato Grosso”, analyzes the parliamentarian. “In addition, our limestone production, which supplies agriculture and is one of the largest in the world, has a gigantic impact on the economy.”

Sheila also points to the diversification of the sector as a pillar supporting growth, highlighting the extraction of polymetals (zinc, copper and lead) and the significant advance in gold exploration, which has boosted the collection of Cfem (Financial Compensation for the Exploration of Mineral Resources) in producing municipalities.

Generation of jobs and appreciation of mining

As the mineral sector solidifies and industrializes, the deputy makes a point of demystifying the image of those who work at the end of the production chain, defending the social and economic role of the activity.

"The evolution of our mining, especially gold, makes it clear that the prospector is not a criminal. We are talking about a sector that produces, generates wealth and is a machine for creating opportunities: for every direct job in mining, another 13 indirect jobs are created in the economy. Without mineral resources, modern life would not even exist. The prospector works and builds the future of our state", argues Sheila Klener.

The industry's recent performance consolidates Mato Grosso not only as an agricultural powerhouse, but as a rapidly expanding industrial and mineral hub, capable of transforming natural resources into social and economic development.
