Initially scheduled for this Tuesday (7), the trial of businessman Carlos Alberto Gomes Bezerra was redesignated by the Court for July 21, 2026, at 9 am, following a request from the defense related to access to materials produced during the investigation. Son of former federal deputy Carlos Bezerra, Carlos Alberto Gomes Bezerra is a confessed defendant and is in prison. According to a complaint from the Public Ministry of Mato Grosso (MPMT), the feminicide was committed for a base reason, related to non-compliance with the end of the romantic relationship, through extreme violence and in circumstances that made any reaction from the victim impossible.
For the MPMT, the conduct demonstrated a high degree of cruelty, since the shots were fired in broad daylight, in an urban area with intense movement of people, using a semi-automatic pistol. The MPMT also maintains that the crime occurred in the context of domestic and gender-based violence. According to the complaint, the accused took advantage of his status as the victim's ex-partner and his physical superiority to exercise control and violence against Thays Machado, showing contempt for the victim's feminine status and framing the case within the legal hypotheses of feminicide.
In relation to the death of Willian Cesar Moreno, the Public Prosecutor's Office indicted the accused for qualified homicide for a base motive, use of cruel means and a resource that made it impossible for the victim to defend himself. According to the prosecution, the action was premeditated and carried out in order to surprise the couple, preventing any effective possibility of reaction or escape in the face of the shots fired by the accused.
When analyzing the request, judge Mônica Catarina Perri Siqueira understood that there is, at this moment, no concrete risk to the privacy of victims or third parties that justifies maintaining judicial secrecy. The judge also highlighted that the publicity of procedural acts constitutes a constitutional rule and that the Public Prosecutor's Office itself, after dialogue with the victims' families, was in favor of opening the session.
Despite the lifting of secrecy, the decision establishes restrictions on coverage of the trial. Television coverage of the session will be limited to the official press office of the Court of Justice of Mato Grosso, with access to the plenary session being prohibited for broadcast teams and other media outlets. The capture and dissemination of images that allow the identification of the defendant and jurors also remains prohibited. Access by the general public, however, is authorized.
