The party is in an impasse between launching Senator Jayme Campos into the Government or supporting the re-election of Governor Otaviano Pivetta (Republicans).
For Júlio, the decision on the acronym will be resolved with the release of members to support one of the two names in the election on October 4th.
"There is a pre-understanding that, if this group of possible dissidents from Jayme Campos' candidacy wants to support the republican candidate Otaviano Pivetta, that there will be no problem. They will be released", the parliamentarian told the press this Wednesday (8).
"Former governor Mauro Mendes himself, who is our pre-candidate for the Senate, has already been assured of freedom to support his friend, Pivetta. There is no problem", he added.
The members with the right to vote in the party, around 50, will define at the convention on the 30th whether the party will actually have the name of the senator in the dispute or whether it supports Pivetta.
The impasse has been formed since the end of last year, when Mendes, who is president of União Brasil in the State, defined that he would support Pivetta. After that, Jayme reinforced the mobilization for the right to run for herself.
“Before arriving at the União Brasil split, we have to submit the assessment of the result of the União Brasil convention to the Progressive Party, which is our federate together”, explained Júlio.
“I believe that the candidate's thesis has an absolute majority, that is, approximately 35 votes from the 50 voters,” he said.
The “exit” pointed out by the deputy would also include the decision already taken by the PP, which has already defined its support for Pivetta. The party and União Brasil form the União Progressista Federation. Júlio mentioned a prior agreement to accept the dissent already made with the president of the PP, former federal deputy Nilson Leitão.
"It was confirmed that, if União Brasil defends its own candidacy, there will be no challenge from the progressives. It would not be difficult for the federation to also accept this result", said the deputy.
