Brazil said goodbye to its dream of a sixth championship this Sunday. The team missed chances, was punished by Haaland and lost to Norway 2-1 at the MetLife Stadium, in New Jersey (USA), being eliminated in the round of 16 of the World Cup. The Brazilian goal was scored by Neymar, from the penalty spot.

In the next phase, Norway will face the winner of the duel between Mexico and England, which will be played this Sunday, at 9pm (Brasília time), at Estázio Azteca. The quarter-final clash is scheduled for next Saturday, July 11th, at 6pm, at Hard Rock Stadium, in Miami.

The start of the game was electrifying. Brazil started badly and got scared after just two minutes. After a counterattack, Berg received a pass freely at the edge of the area and shot high into the air, with no chance for Alisson. The goal, however, was disallowed for offside.

The team reacted to the nine. Bruno Guimarães found a pass for Martinelli, who rolled the ball to Matheus Cunha and saw the number 9 being brought down in the area. The referee hesitated, but awarded the penalty after reviewing the move in VAR. In the charge, Bruno Guimarães hit poorly and stopped in the defense of goalkeeper Nyland.

Brazil arrived in danger once again in the 40th minute. Vinicius Júnior stole the ball in Norway's box and rolled it to Martinelli, who passed it back to Vini. The Real Madrid striker cleared the marker and released a bomb with his left leg, but Nyland palmed it away.

At 47, it was Norway's turn to scare the Brazilian defense. Haaland fought with Gabriel Magalhães at the edge of the area and the ball fell to Odegaard, free of marking. He shot firmly with his left, but Alisson made a good save and kept the score 0-0.

Ancelotti decided to change the team after the break and replaced Endrick with Matheus Cunha. The change took effect 13 minutes into the second half. Vini Júnior made a beautiful shot to Endrick, who was face to face with the goalkeeper and shot wide.

Brazil had another chance at 16. Gabriel Magalhães received a cross in the area and headed it to Rayan, who made a bomb from the edge of the area, but stopped at Nyland. Norway responded with a counterattack in the 29th minute. Schjelderup received the ball in the area and crossed the ball, but Alisson saved it.

Norway took advantage of a mistake by the Seleção in defense and opened the scoring in the 34th minute. Schjelderup made a good move on the left side and crossed to Haaland, who beat Gabriel Magalhães high up and headed the ball into the back of the net.

Brazil almost equalized at 39. Ajer deflected behind when sharing with Endrick and was scoring against, but Nyland saved on the line. Norway even increased their lead in the 44th minute. Haaland received a pass at the edge of the area and shot low, into the corner, with no chance for Alisson.

The Seleção came up short in stoppage time, with a penalty converted by Neymar, but it was too late. The team did not have time to find the equalizer and ended their dream of a sixth world championship.
