A 19-year-old student at the Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture at the University of São Paulo (Esalq/USP) was found dead this Saturday morning, the 11th, in a student republic located in Vila Independência, in Piracicaba, in the interior of São Paulo.

The victim was identified as Franco Tavares Mendes, a second-year Agricultural Engineering student. To date, the cause of death has not been disclosed.

According to the Municipal Civil Guard (GCM), the body showed no apparent signs of violence. In the property, agents found several packages of alcoholic beverages, including beer, wine, vodka, whiskey and other spirits, as well as energy drinks.

All the material was seized by the Civil Police and will be analyzed during the investigation, which seeks to clarify the circumstances of the death. The area was isolated for forensic work.

According to GCM, teams were called to provide support to the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu). Upon arriving at the scene, the doctor confirmed that the young man was already dead and informed that there was no possibility of starting resuscitation procedures.

According to the medical team's report, Franco was initially found face down. Before EMS arrived, people who were at the residence changed the position of the body after receiving guidance over the phone to check possible vital signs.

In a statement, Esalq lamented the student's death and expressed solidarity with his family, friends and the academic community.

"The loss of a young member of our academic community saddens us deeply and unites us in mourning. Franco will be remembered with affection by everyone who had the privilege of living with him", stated the institution.

The university also wished strength to the family members and highlighted that the entire Esalq community is united in solidarity at this time of mourning.
