The shot, given by a civil guard, occurred after a traffic accident, according to the incident record.
The agents were traveling in the police car to an incident when, during an attempt to overtake, there was a collision with another car.
It was during the crash that the pistol the officer was carrying accidentally discharged, hitting the driver of the vehicle, according to the police document.
The GCM who was shot was taken to Santa Casa, in the central region, where he died. He was part of Romu (Ronda Ostensiva Municipal).
The pistol and ammunition were seized and sent for forensic examination, according to the SSP (Public Security Secretariat). The incident was recorded as a collision and gunshot in the 4th DP (Consolação).
In a statement, the Municipal Department of Urban Security said it deeply regretted what happened and expressed solidarity with family, friends and corporate colleagues in this moment of pain.
"The incident is being investigated by the Civil Police, with monitoring by the General Inspectorate of the Metropolitan Civil Guard, which initiated an administrative procedure to investigate the circumstances of the facts and adopt the appropriate measures", says the ministry.
