Newborn is found in a hospital trash can in the interior of SP

A newborn was rescued alive after being found inside a trash bin at a private hospital in Sorocaba, in the interior of São Paulo. The case occurred on Monday afternoon and is being investigated by the Civil Police.

According to the Military Police, the corporation was called via telephone 190 and, upon arriving at the scene, they found the baby already receiving care from the medical team. After first aid, the child was taken to Conjunto Hospitalar de Sorocaba (CHS), where he remained hospitalized.

Hospital Evangélico de Sorocaba confirmed that the newborn was located in the women's bathroom of the unit's emergency room. In a statement, the institution reported that the team provided emergency care immediately after the discovery and arranged for transfer to a reference hospital.

Investigations initially indicate that the baby could be the son of a teenager treated at the hospital. However, the young woman's family members deny this possibility.

To clarify the case, the police must request tests that confirm or rule out maternity. Meanwhile, the teenager and her guardians were taken to the police station to give a statement.

The Guardianship Council was also called to monitor the incident. The Civil Police are investigating the circumstances under which the newborn was abandoned and are seeking to identify those responsible for the case.
