August also has a day off: see where the calendar will be interrupted

The first date will be this Wednesday (5), when Paraíba celebrates its big date. The state holiday commemorates the founding of the territory of Paraíba, in 1585, and also coincides with João Pessoa's birthday and the day of Nossa Senhora das Neves, patron saint of the capital.

The celebration was recognized as a holiday throughout the state by Law No. 10,601, of 2015. In state and municipal public offices, working hours will be suspended, with services considered essential continuing.

August 15th will hold the largest number of celebrations. The date, which will fall on a Saturday, is a state holiday in Pará for the Accession of Grão-Pará to the Independence of Brazil. In Tocantins, the day is dedicated to Senhor do Bonfim.

There will also be a holiday in the capitals Belo Horizonte and Fortaleza for religious celebrations. The break will also reach municipalities such as Maringá, in Paraná; Jundiaí and Sorocaba, in São Paulo; Vitória da Conquista, in Bahia; and Ipatinga and Patos de Minas, in Minas Gerais.

In Maringá, the date honors Our Lady of Glory. Jundiaí celebrates Nossa Senhora do Desterro, while Sorocaba celebrates 372 years of its foundation. Vitória da Conquista dedicates the day to Our Lady of Victories, and the Minas Gerais municipalities of Ipatinga and Patos de Minas celebrate the Assumption of Mary.

In Ouro Preto, also in Minas Gerais, the 15th will be an optional event in honor of Nossa Senhora do Pilar and Nossa Senhora da Lapa. The date also coincides with Rio Grande do Norte's birthday, but is not considered a state holiday.

On Sunday, August 16, Teresina turns 174 years old. The capital of Piauí was created in 1852 and became the first planned city in the country. The name pays homage to Empress Teresa Cristina, wife of Dom Pedro II.

The transfer of the capital of Piauí from Oeiras to the new city, built on the banks of the Parnaíba River, was led by the then president of the province, José Antônio Saraiva.

Campo Grande will have a municipal holiday on Wednesday, August 26th. The capital of Mato Grosso do Sul will celebrate 127 years of political emancipation, made official in 1899, when the municipality was still part of the former State of Mato Grosso. The city became state capital after the creation of Mato Grosso do Sul in 1977.

The day off calendar ends on the 27th, a Thursday, in Maceió. The municipal holiday honors Nossa Senhora dos Prazeres, patron saint of the capital of Alagoas, also known as Nossa Senhora das Sete Alegrias.
