Video shows pilot caught with 70,000 ecstasy pills in Jakarta

The video shows the moment when customs agents search the pilot's luggage and find the drugs hidden among his belongings. In total, 70,114 ecstasy pills were seized, weighing approximately 26 kilos.

In addition to the drugs, agents found a bottle containing urine. According to authorities, the material would be used to try to defraud a possible toxicological test. There was also about four grams of methamphetamine in the luggage.

The images released also show the tests carried out to confirm the nature of the seized drug, in addition to the way the pills were packaged.

The pilot was arrested on July 29th. At the time, the airport's customs chief, Hengky Tomuan Parlindungan Aritonang, reported that the suspect also underwent a toxicological examination.

"The results of the urine analysis were positive for methamphetamine, MDMA and cocaine. This means that he was under the influence of these substances during the flight," said the official during a press conference, according to the AFP agency.

During interrogation, the pilot confessed that he had transported drugs on two other occasions to Indonesia and once to Malaysia. He also revealed that he would receive 50,000 Malaysian ringgits — around R$65,000 at the current exchange rate — to take the cargo to Jakarta, where someone else would pick it up.

Police believe the suspect was part of an international drug trafficking organization. If convicted, he could receive a life sentence or even be sentenced to death, as provided for by Indonesian legislation for crimes related to drug trafficking.

In a statement released after the arrest, Malaysia Airlines reported that it is fully cooperating with the investigations and has opened an internal procedure to investigate the case.

"Malaysia Airlines will provide full cooperation to the relevant authorities in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations," the airline said.
