In the 2000s and 2010s, Benedito revisited his work and wrote new versions of hits such as "Sinhá Moça", "Paraíso" and "Meu Pedacinho de Chão". He also created the unprecedented "Velho Chico", his last soap opera.
The playwright died at the age of 95 due to complications from chronic kidney failure. He was hospitalized in São Paulo.

The remake with Bruna Linzmeyer is one of the most fanciful works on Benedito Ruy Barbosa's CV. The 2014 version incorporates a playful and sophisticated aesthetic to the original 1971 plot, which is not available on streaming.

While the original 1990 version is not available on streaming, the 2022 remake is. Written by Bruno Luperi based on his grandfather's work, the novel retells the story of José Leôncio in contemporary language.

The original version of the soap opera, with Kadu Moliterno and Cristina Mullins, premieres on July 20th on Globoplay. It narrates the romance between peasant José Eleutério and Maria Rita, in a plot marked by religiosity and rural experiences. The 2009 remake is also available on Globoplay.

The television drama classic with Antonio Fagundes tells a story of rivalry between Italian immigrants. It also deals with topics such as agrarian reform and land conflicts.

José Inocêncio builds a cocoa empire in southern Bahia while facing family disputes, passions and a difficult relationship with his son. It is considered one of Benedito Ruy Barbosa's masterpieces, and in 2024 it received a remake written by his grandson, Bruno Luperi.

The soap opera follows the relationship between young Sinhá Moça and an abolitionist lawyer. The work became one of Benedito Ruy Barbosa's greatest classics and received a remake in 2006, with Débora Falabella, also available on Globoplay.

The latest soap opera written by Benedito Ruy Barbosa goes to the banks of the São Francisco River to show the clashes and loves between two rival families. It is a tribute to the culture and landscapes of the northeastern hinterland. The work was marked by the death of actor Domingos Montagner during recording.
