SÃO PAULO, SP (UOL/FOLHAPRESS) - Arboleda's reinstatement to the squad did not change São Paulo's planning for the transfer window: the club continues to prioritize the arrival of a new defender.

TOP PRIORITY

Even with the Ecuadorian's return to activities, the board maintains the signing of a defender as an absolute priority and continues in the market in search of reinforcement for the sector.

The need for a new defender has gained strength in recent weeks due to a sequence of casualties in the squad. Doria terminated his contract with the club after receiving threats on social media, while Sabino was handed over to the medical department.

Furthermore, Nahuel Ferraresi, who was already on loan at Botafogo, is leaving. São Paulo reached a verbal agreement with Alvinegro to exchange the defender for midfielder Newton, a negotiation revealed by UOL. The clubs are working to formalize the operation, which will further reduce the options for the defensive system.

Given the scenario, Arboleda's reinstatement was treated as an important internal solution, but insufficient to make the board back down in the search for a new defender. The understanding is that the cast needs one more piece to continue the season.

TWO "NOS" ON THE MARKET

The search, however, has encountered difficulties. The first target was Domingos Duarte. Free on the market, the Portuguese defender ended negotiations with São Paulo after rejecting different contract models presented by the club due to salary differences.

With the departure of executive Rui Costa and the rise of Rafinha to interim command of the football department, conversations were resumed, but they stalled again for the same reasons and ended up definitively closed.

In parallel, Tricolor concentrated its efforts on Arthur Chaves. The club opened negotiations with Hoffenheim, from Germany, and presented different alternatives to try to make the Brazilian's signing viable, prioritizing a loan.

The initial dialogue was considered positive, but, after weeks of negotiations, none of the proposals found support from the German club.
