São Paulo consults Internacional in search of a swap for midfielder Thiago Maia

The report found that, in conversations between the clubs, São Paulo raised different possibilities for the composition of the deal, within the strategy of seeking reinforcement for the midfield at zero cost.

Among the names considered as a counterpart was right-back Cédric Soares, who is out of the plans for the remainder of the season. In addition to the Portuguese, São Paulo also discussed the possibility of involving players who were at the end of their contract at Morumbis.

Before the World Cup, the club even released the trio of Matheus Belém, Young and Luan from returning to the squad as the three entered the final six months of their contracts. The debated format, however, did not find support in Colorado. Given this, São Paulo keeps Newton as plan A for the position.

In April, UOL had already shown that São Paulo consulted intermediaries for the midfielder, who only has six more months of employment at Beira-Rio, for a possible pre-contract.

CÉDRIC CONTINUES TO LEAVE

The consultation with Internacional took place amid the process of reformulating the squad promoted by São Paulo. As UOL showed, Cédric Soares was no longer part of the technical committee's planning and started training at alternative times at the Barra Funda CT.

The board agrees to negotiate the full-back both permanently and on loan and has used the player in different market conversations, always with the aim of reducing the salary bill and making room for reinforcements.

The scenario gained even more strength with the verbal agreement to hire Aurélio Buta. Free on the market after the end of his contract with Eintracht Frankfurt, the Portuguese agreed to a one-season contract with São Paulo and is just waiting for the exchange of documents to be completed before being officially announced.

NEWTON IS A PRIORITY

While evaluating different possibilities to reinforce the midfield, São Paulo focused its efforts on signing Newton. The Botafogo midfielder has an agreement with Tricolor and is treated internally as the main target for the position.

The operation continues to be adjusted between the clubs in parallel with the negotiations involving Nahuel Ferraresi, but the understanding at Morumbis is that the negotiation is heading towards a positive outcome.
