As soon as the referee ended the game, the Paraguayan goalkeeper reached out to shake the French striker, but was ignored. Angered by the situation, Gill reacted.
The player didn't like his opponent's attitude and ended up throwing the ball at Mbappé's back. The Frenchman did not respond to the provocation and just smiled as he celebrated with the fans in the stands.
Shortly afterwards, in the quick interview area, Gill admitted that he exaggerated his reaction and stated that he was “irritated” at having been “ignored” by Mbappé.
