Neymar was a protagonist on and off the field in Santos' qualification to the quarterfinals of the Copa do Brasil. Hostiled since the warm-up at Mangueirão, in Belém, the number 10 responded to the fans during the match and got involved in a confusion with Remo officials after the final whistle.

The attacker started on the bench and came on at half-time. In the 28th minute of the second half, he assisted Rony to score the goal that won Santos 1-0. The result confirmed their place after the goalless draw in the first leg, played at Vila Belmiro.

During the game, Neymar reacted to the boos by putting his hands to his ears and making gestures towards the stands. Upon leaving the field, he also threw kisses to the fans of the club from Pará, increasing the tension in the stadium.

The confusion gained momentum when accessing the changing rooms. Images released after the match show the player arguing with members of the Remo delegation and repeating the word “eliminated”. There was an exchange of insults, and police and security guards had to intervene to prevent the verbal confrontation from progressing.

The attitude provoked a harsh reaction from the president of Remo, Antônio Carlos Teixeira. In an interview given after the game, the director stated that the club from Pará felt harmed and attacked the Santos player.

"It was a great campaign. Now, there is a feeling that we have been harmed. Santos doesn't need this", he declared.

Afterwards, Teixeira raised the tone when commenting on the provocations made by Neymar.

"This bum Neymar, who is idolized by a bunch of children, did his antics here and even came to provoke. So, we are guilty of idolizing a bunch of bums like that," said the president.

Neymar also used social media to respond to hostilities. The attacker published a video with the offensive chants sung by Remo fans and wrote, in an ironic tone: “Thanks for the affection, Belém”.

The exit from the stadium continued to be marked by tension. Fans surrounded and shook the vehicle carrying the player, according to images that circulated after the match.

Classified in the Copa do Brasil, Santos now turns its attention to the Brazilian Championship. The team hosts Athletico-PR on Sunday, in an important match in the fight to move away from the bottom of the table.
