Messi regrets after Argentina's vice-president and says 'it will take time for the wound to close'

On social media, Argentina's number 10 said that the pain of the defeat is "very big". The Argentine team finished second after Spain won 1-0, in extra time, this Sunday (20).

Messi believes it will not be easy to overcome the defeat. The striker, however, valued the group that reached two consecutive World Cup finals - a title, in 2022, and a runner-up, in 2026. "The pain is very great and it will take time for the wound to close. But I also keep everything that was good", he wrote.

"With the matches that we turned around leaving everything and that will remain forever in our memory, with the support of an entire country that, together with the work and effort of this group, led us to be, once again, among the best in the world. Today it is difficult to value what we did, but this group reached two consecutive World Cup finals", wrote Messi, in a post on Instagram.

The Inter Miami player also highlighted Argentina's memorable comebacks in the World Cup. The comebacks against Egypt, in the round of 16, and England, in the semi-final, marked the campaign. He also congratulated champions Spain.

"Thank you very much, from the bottom of my heart, for every greeting and for every message. Once again we managed to unite as a country and be together, sharing the immense pride of being Argentines. I also want to congratulate Spain on the championship", the Argentina striker also wrote on Instagram.

Messi probably played in his last World Cup. The first was in 2006, twenty years ago, and the Argentine played six editions.
