Irishman Conor McGregor returned to the octagon this Saturday night (11) after a five-year hiatus. The fight was against the American Max Holloway, in the welterweight category (up to 77.1 kg), at UFC 329, in Las Vegas. Although expectations were very high, the idol of the sport suffered an injury to his right knee after just 69 seconds and was defeated by technical knockout.

With the injury, McGregor was forced to abandon the fight and Max Holloway was declared the winner. In a short time in the octagon, the European tried some kicks and felt the injury after one threw a flying tackle. The referee let the fight continue for a few seconds, but ended the fight due to the Irishman's situation.

The competitors greeted each other after the fight and demonstrated respect and reciprocity, after controversy in the pre-fight events. The day before the duel, during the face-off, the Irishman knocked off his opponent's glasses and both had to be restrained by the teams.

Furthermore, the Irishman remembered the old times and launched a series of provocations against the North American. "He's nothing against me. I'm another kind of animal. Good luck to him, but he won't be able to do that (overpower me). I'll prove it to everyone and to myself."

UFC president, Dana White, spoke after the fight and lamented what happened to the historic competitor.

"Being out of this sport for five years is complicated. I was expecting, at the very least, a one-round war, or I wanted to see what Conor was capable of in terms of physical conditioning." "We are assuming a rupture of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). I'm not a doctor, but that's what I imagined when I saw the move and doctors think the same thing."
