In concert, Harry Styles seals communion with Brazil after several tours around São Paulo

Styles comes running. It runs the entire length of the stage, a megalomaniac structure in a rectangular shape with four squares in the middle – the most expensive spaces in the show –, which accommodated somewhat cramped fans. While singing "Are You Listening Yet?", the Brit greeted the entire audience that spread out on the floor and in the stands of the Morumbis stadium, in the western region of the capital of São Paulo.

Perhaps because of the freezing weather in the city, Styles left aside the microshorts he had been wearing in several shows on the tour. Here, he wore blue pants and a long-sleeved shirt printed with daisies.

The Brit enjoyed São Paulo a little, after all. In recent days, he was seen running around Ibirapuera Park, shopping at a grocery store and even going to a cinema on Rua Augusta. On tours, I sometimes took photos with fans; in others, he asked them to put down their cell phones.

It's unusual that a celebrity of his size didn't cloister himself in the hotel – as often happens –, but this desire to explore the streets has a lot to do with the creation of the album that forms the basis of the tour, which has three more dates in São Paulo.

In recent years, Styles fell in love with running and disco music while on retreat to reconnect with art. He went to clubs in Berlin, ran marathons and tried to get as close as possible to an ordinary citizen. He seems to have lost his appreciation for aesthetic and sonic excesses and assumed a more sober tone in "Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally.".

It ended up not being his most celebrated work. According to some critics, there was a lack of hits, notable clips and great compositions. But that doesn't get in the way of the communion that Styles establishes show after show with his fans, an unshakable band of faithful who, for the most part, have followed the singer since he became famous with the boy band One Direction, in the early 2010s.

Of the five members, Styles was the only one who prospered a lot - he is, by far, the most famous and prestigious, with a Grammy for album of the year for "Harry's House", in 2022, inclusive. It was the repertoire of this album, in fact, that really lifted the show: songs like "Golden" and "Music for a Sushi Restaurant" were the first to make the audience jump.

The most intimate moments of the show include the melancholic "Coming Up Roses", which Styles played on the piano, flanked by a group of Brazilian violinists. The performance continues with "Fine Line", another dramatic song, about a relationship that lasts and which he dedicates to his fans. On tour, it gets a grandiose arrangement.

After a break, Styles returns with "American Girls" and "Keep Driving". Among them, he said "Happy Birthday" to a woman in the audience who he understood was called Lalessa – she was probably trying to let him know that she was Larissa. The public was amused by the confusion.

The dancing energy returns with "Dance no More", an ode to freedom, detachment and swaying. Styles performs rehearsed choreography and also improvised dances, encouraging the audience to follow him. In the next song, "Treat People with Kindness", wheels appeared among the audience on the stadium floor.

Before "Carla's Song" and "Satellite," Styles once again said that dancing changed his life when he discovered how powerful it was to join strangers in moving your body. He said that, therefore, he was grateful to the Brazilian public for showing up there to do just that.

Styles hadn't been to Brazil since 2022, when he visited Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba and São Paulo. The current tour continues in the capital of São Paulo this Saturday and on the 21st and 24th, with tickets still on sale.

The show ended to the sound of "As It Was", Styles' biggest hit, as he sped across the entire length of the stage, exactly as he had at the beginning, but now carrying a Brazilian flag in his hands.
