Gilberto Gil is trapped in an elevator and is saved by firefighters

Six men from the 17th Military Firefighter Group went to the Chopin building after the corporation was called for a rescue incident.

"The rescued victim was the renowned singer Gilberto Gil, who was safely saved by military firefighters", says a note from the group published on social media. "The operation was carried out quickly, technically and precisely, ensuring that the artist was not injured."

The note ends with the phrase "that hug", in reference to one of the artist's best-known songs, composed in 1969, when he and Caetano Veloso were released from prison during the military dictatorship.

After the rescue, Gil posed for a photo with the firefighters and thanked them.

"Thank you for your agility and care. That hug," he said. "Always count on our heroes", replied the corporation.

The Chopin, where Gil lives with his wife, businesswoman Flora Gil, is next to the Copacabana Palace. They live in a 344 square meter apartment. In May this year, Flora confirmed that the family property was put up for sale. The couple is looking for a bigger place.

The building is known for bringing together famous residents, such as Fábio Porchat and socialite Regina Gonçalves, in addition to having previously housed Maitê Proença and Narcisa Tamborindeguy. Opened in 1956, the building has 12 floors and 60 apartments.
