Caixa Econômica Federal allows workers to withdraw up to R$6,220 from the Service Time Guarantee Fund (FGTS) through the modality known as Calamity Withdrawal. The benefit, however, is not available to the entire population.

The measure is aimed exclusively at people whose homes were affected by natural disasters and who live in municipalities with an emergency situation or state of public calamity officially recognized by the authorities.

The money released does not represent an extra benefit from the government. This is the balance already existing in the worker's FGTS account, which can be withdrawn in advance if necessary.

The maximum amount is R$6,220 due to FGTS. If the worker has a lower balance, they will only be able to withdraw the available amount.

Who can request?

Saque Calamidade is available to workers who live in cities authorized by Caixa and which have been affected by events such as:

Floods, inundations and flash floods; Flooding and sea invasion in coastal areas; Landslides; Gales, storms with hail and tornadoes; Cyclones, hurricanes and typhoons.

The modality has already been used in major disasters that occurred in Brazil, such as the ruptures of the Mariana and Brumadinho (MG) dams and the landslides in Petrópolis (RJ).

What are the rules?

To request the withdrawal, the municipality must have official recognition of the emergency situation or public calamity and be authorized by Caixa.

In general, the worker can make one withdrawal per event, as long as a minimum interval of 12 months is respected between requests.

The only exception occurred in 2024 for municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul affected by historic floods. At the time, a federal decree waived this interval. For other cases, the rule continues to apply.

How to request Calamity Loot?

The procedure is carried out entirely through the FGTS application. Simply access the "Request withdrawal" option, select the "Public calamity" modality, inform the municipality affected and fill in the requested data.

You also need to send some documents:

Identity document; CPF; Proof of residence issued up to 120 days before the calamity decree.

If the proof is in the name of the spouse, it is necessary to present a marriage certificate or document proving stable union. If there is no proof, the worker may present a declaration issued by the city hall or, in some situations, a declaration of their own, which will later be verified by Caixa.
