With first place, Antonelli ruined the party for the fans who were hoping to see a British driver as the winner. On the podium, at least, Hamilton (2nd) and Norris (3rd) eased the disappointment of the fans who celebrated a lot before the start.
First place further improves the condition of the World Cup leader. Antonelli gained eight points for the victory and now has 179. George Russell, his teammate, and fourth place in the race held this Saturday, is second in the table with 136.
The start of the race at Silverstone was very competitive. Norris jumped from sixth to third place, overtook Kimi Antonelli before the first lap, but was replaced by the Italian from Mercedes, who regained second place and followed behind leader Lewis Hamilton.
Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto did not have a good start, losing five positions right at the start and falling from 12th place to 16th place, significantly complicating his participation in the race.
In the front group, after five laps, the top five placed, the seven-time champion remained at the top followed by Antonelli with Lando Norris in third, Max Verstappen in fourth, George Russell in fifth, Charles Leclerc right behind, Oscar Piastri and Liam Lawson completing the Top 8 of the race at Silverstone.
From the middle of the race, on the eighth lap, the fight for the lead became more fierce. Antonelli bet on the greater power of his engine and overtook Lewis Hamilton. Mercedes also responded with George Russell, who overtook Max Verstappen, gained fourth position and started to threaten Norris.
Bortoleto's Audi was unable to compete against its rivals and remained in the middle of the sprint race. The Brazilian had problems and finished the race in 14th place.
The sprint is over, but the workday continues in Formula 1. The drivers return to the Silverstone circuit this Saturday, at 12pm (Brasília time), to compete in qualifying for the British GP. The main race takes place this Sunday at 11am.
