Not everyone wakes up in a good mood. For some people, getting out of bed and starting the day can be a real challenge. According to the Mirror newspaper, a doctor revealed five simple habits that can be adopted as soon as you wake up and which, in addition to helping you start the day with more energy, also bring benefits to your health and well-being.

The tips come from doctor Amir Khan, who frequently appears on the Good Morning Britain program and has millions of followers on social media.

Five simple habits to do in the morning

1. Drink a glass of water

"After seven or eight hours of sleep, our body is naturally dehydrated," explains Khan.

"Drinking a glass of water as soon as you wake up helps replace fluids lost during the night. This promotes blood circulation, kidney function, digestion and, for some people, it can even increase alertness and concentration. I like to start the day hydrated. It's one of the easiest habits to incorporate into your routine."

2. Leave the house

The doctor says this is his "favorite" tip.

"This is the best time of year to do this", he highlights.

"Morning light stimulates specialized cells in the eyes, which send a signal to the brain's biological clock, helping to reduce melatonin production and regulate the circadian rhythm."

"People who get plenty of sunlight early in the morning tend to sleep better at night, have more energy during the day and even have a better mood. It's not necessary to spend a lot of time outdoors. Just 10 or 20 minutes, drinking a cup of coffee, is enough."

3. Walk barefoot on the grass

"I'm not talking about electromagnetic fields", he clarifies.

"What I mean is, it stimulates thousands of nerve endings in your feet, challenges your balance, strengthens the small muscles in your feet and ankles, and helps you slow down a little, as well as creating a connection with nature early in the day."

4. Listen to the sounds of the morning

“Research shows that listening to birdsong and the sounds of nature can reduce stress, improve mood and reduce anxiety,” says Khan.

"Scientists believe that our brains evolved in natural environments. So hearing birds singing and running water sends the message to the nervous system that we are in a safe environment."

5. Take five deep breaths

“Just five slow, deep breaths,” recommends the doctor.

"Inhale for four seconds and exhale for six. This activates the parasympathetic nervous system, responsible for the body's state of rest and digestion."

"This practice reduces heart rate, reduces stress hormones and sends the message to the brain that we are relaxed and safe. It takes less than a minute, but it's one of the quickest ways to calm your body and mind."
