For more than two decades, João Rock has been a reference, bringing together artists from different generations in a musical marathon in a single day. In its 23rd edition, which takes place on August 1st, in Ribeirão Preto-SP, the festival arrives with sold out tickets and more than 30 attractions, maintaining the essence of strengthening national rock and its aspects. Over the years, we have understood that it also dialogues with many other styles, artists and movements of Brazilian music. Throughout its history, João Rock has been the stage for unprecedented meetings, memorable shows and tributes to artists who helped build and transform the genre and its subgenres in Brazil. Rita Lee One of the most important artists in Brazilian music and a reference in national rock, Rita Lee was at João Rock in 2006 and 2010. With performances marked by irreverence, authenticity and a repertoire full of classics, the singer helped to consolidate the festival as a stage for big names in the genre. Caetano Veloso was in Ribeirão Preto for a presentation and appeared at the festival by surprise. Shortly after midnight, during the Os Mutantes show, which featured Zélia Duncan on vocals, Sérgio Dias invited the singer to go on stage. The surprise participation sent the audience into a frenzy and became one of the event's most remembered encounters. The partnership was marked in the history of the festival and will be celebrated again in 2026, when the founder of Camisa de Vênus returns as a special guest on the Charlie Brown Jr. Acústico project, alongside Negra Li. The “Tremendão” Erasmo Carlos A pioneer of Brazilian rock, Erasmo Carlos participated in João Rock in 2022, in one of the last performances of his career. Considered one of the main names of Jovem Guarda, “Tremendão” left a legacy that influenced generations of artists and transformed their participation in the festival into a historic moment. On the one hand, one of the greatest representatives of national rock; on the other, one of the main names in Brazilian rap. Together, the artists showed how different genres can dialogue based on common themes, such as diversity, resistance and social transformation. In addition to the memorable moments that marked national music, the festival also opens up space for new names in Brazilian music. Through the Band Competition, groups and original artists from all over the country compete for the opportunity to perform on the João Rock Stage, an initiative that reinforces the event's commitment to renewing the national scene.
