Extremoz Lagoon, in Greater Natal, overflows The heavy rains that hit the municipality of Extremoz, in Rio Grande do Norte, caused the Extremoz Lagoon to overflow and left residents stranded this Tuesday (21). Water invaded houses and streets in the coastal region and other neighborhoods of the city. Lagoa de Extremoz is the main access to the municipality. According to an official note from the city hall, the overflow occurred due to the high volume of water, but traffic continues normally in the area. ? On Redinha Nova beach, residents were stranded around Rua da Baleia and recorded water accumulating inside their houses. On Rua Beberibe, water surrounded homes and prevented vehicle access. Traffic was also affected near Aquário Natal, where drivers face difficulty traveling towards the beaches on the north coast and towards Natal. The resident of the region, Maquiônio Medeiros, reported the problems he faced on the road. "I've lived here for more than 20 years and this problem is repeated over and over again. So this is a total disregard for us. Our vehicles are running out, we don't have a shred of dignity with the infrastructure. We don't know who to cry out to, because Redinha Nova here is abandoned," he said. Streets were also flooded in the Esporte Clube Natureza neighborhood. The city hall announced that teams from the Civil Defense and the Municipal Social Assistance Secretariat serve the residents of the neighborhood and provide support to affected families in other parts of the municipality, monitoring risk areas.
