The show "As Cores da América Latina", winner of the Juan Azevedo Shell Theater Award of traditions that cross generations. Created by the Amazonian company Panorando Cia. e Produtora, the montage was born from research into popular festivals that remain alive thanks to communities that preserve their rituals, characters and ways of celebrating. Show 'The Colors of Latin America' Judah Levy/Panorando On stage, the public tours three notable cultural events on the continent: the Fiesta de La Tirana, one of the largest religious celebrations in northern Chile, which brings together music, dance and devotion to the Virgin of Mount Carmel; the Huaconada, a ritual dance performed in the town of Mito, Peru, in which masked men represent the ancient council of elders and symbolically exercise the community's authority; and Cavalo-Marinho, a manifestation of popular culture in the Zona da Mata of Pernambuco and southern Paraíba that combines theater, music, dance and dozens of characters inspired by everyday life and popular imagination. Instead of reproducing these celebrations, the show recreates their symbolic universes. Masks, costumes, choreography and the soundtrack help to build a narrative that brings together different traditions and reveals the meeting points between Latin American peoples. The editing relies on a language constructed less by words and more by images, movements and the presence of the artists on stage. Instead of following a linear story, the audience is invited to create their own interpretations based on the sensations awakened during the presentation. Instead of telling a linear story, the show invites the audience to construct meanings based on the sensations produced on stage", explains director Fábio Moura. Recognized with the Shell Prize, one of the main performing arts awards in the country, "As Cores da América Latina" has already toured different Brazilian capitals and arrives in Belém in a season that also strengthens the circulation of cultural productions between Amazonian states. For Moura, taking the show to Pará represents an opportunity to expand artistic exchange in the North region, which still faces obstacles to the circulation of groups and productions. "Although Amazonas and Pará share many cultural references, exchange in the performing arts is still limited.
