Man launches firecracker at community dogs in RS A man will face charges of mistreatment after throwing a firecracker at two community dogs in São Leopoldo, in the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre, according to the Civil Police. With the help of information passed on by the community, investigators were able to identify the person responsible for the episode. The police reported that they will not disclose the identity of the person being investigated due to the repercussion of the case and to avoid possible reprisal actions. The man was summoned to the police station and, during his statement, admitted to having committed the act. According to delegate Rodrigo Camara, he said he acted because the community dogs bothered him and also bothered his domestic animals. The two dogs were taken to the Municipal Department of Animal Protection, where they received care and treatment. According to the delegate, the suspect will be charged with the crime of mistreatment of a domestic animal. The investigation is in its final phase and should be sent to the Judiciary in the coming days. The delegate also clarified that the man was not arrested in the act because the legislation provides for this type of arrest only when the perpetrator is caught committing the crime or located shortly after the occurrence.
