Águas de Manaus carries out scheduled maintenance at Ponta do Ismael this Wednesday (5). Disclosure/Águas de Manaus Whenever scheduled or emergency maintenance is carried out on the supply system, it is necessary to temporarily interrupt the operation so that the services can be carried out safely. However, the return of water after this type of intervention does not happen instantly. In Manaus, a city with more than 11,400 km² in extension and complex geography, the supply system has more than 4,000 km of networks and water mains, in addition to structures that reach 1.80 meters in height. After the treatment plants are restarted, the water gradually travels throughout this infrastructure, leaving the reservoirs and following through the pipes until it reaches the properties. This process follows a logic of proximity and altitude. The areas closest to the treatment plants and in lower regions receive water first. Then, the supply advances to the most distant and elevated neighborhoods. As the water travels through the network, the pressure is gradually restored until the entire system is balanced again. "We need to carry out these maintenance operations with operational safety to preserve the reliability of the system and reduce the risk of future occurrences. After the services are completed, the network needs to recover its pressure in a controlled manner, and this process is not immediate, as happens with electricity. If the pressure returns too quickly, the chances of ruptures and leaks increase, which can further extend the time needed to normalize the supply", explains the Operations Manager at Águas de Manaus, Jéssica Candeia. Preventive maintenance guarantees greater security for the system. Scheduled maintenance is part of the concessionaire's preventive plan and is carried out annually to modernize equipment, replace components and prepare the system for the Amazon summer, a period of increased water consumption in the capital. These interventions increase the reliability of the operation and reduce the risk of emergency occurrences throughout the year. This Wednesday (5), the Ponta do Ismael Water Production Complex (PDI) will undergo a scheduled improvement. The work will begin at 6am and continue until 6pm, when the treatment plants will begin to be restarted. After maintenance is completed, supply will gradually resume. In central regions and neighborhoods closest to the complex, normalization should occur within 12 hours. In the highest and most distant areas of the city, the process can take up to 48 hours after the end of services, with complete normalization expected by Friday (7). The entire supply resumption process is monitored in real time by the Águas de Manaus Integrated Operations Center, which monitors the recovery of network pressure and directs water tankers to health units and other emergency situations, whenever necessary.
