According to the concessionaire, inspections cover residential properties and commercial establishments of all sizes. The company reported that it carries out inspections when there are signs of irregularities and contacts the responsible bodies in cases where legal measures are necessary. Prolagos' commercial coordinator, André Bastos, stated that clandestine connections can reduce pressure on the network, increase the risk of leaks and affect supply to consumers. "Water theft harms everyone's supply. It is essential that the population reports this type of irregularity. In addition to being a crime provided for in article 155 of the Penal Code, water theft causes impacts that go beyond financial loss", he declared. According to Bastos, complaints made by the population help identify possible fraud. "Our action is continuous. Whenever there is evidence of irregularity, our teams carry out inspections and, when necessary, contact the competent bodies to adopt legal measures", he stated.
