Sisters transform family farm into vegetable garden and learn about cultivation and financial education In the midst of the farm's routine, two sisters found a different way of learning about the land. Between seedlings, watering and harvesting, Maria Augusta, aged 11, and Maria Helena, aged 10, created a vegetable garden and discovered, in practice, how growing food in the field works. Residents of Tupã (SP), they started the project little by little and, with the support of their family, they expanded production and also learned about financial education. ? However, the first attempts, according to the mother, were not successful, mainly due to the lack of resources. "The two got together and started with very little, we gave encouragement and let things happen", says the girls' mother, Ariane Castro. Despite the frustrating beginning, the girls persisted in the project, and what at first was a modest production, today brings together a variety of foods, such as cassava, pumpkin, chayote, lettuce, endive, pepper, cherry tomatoes, arugula, parsley, chives, coriander, kale and banana. In addition to the variety, one of the differences in production is the cultivation without the use of pesticides, according to the mother. "Producing healthy, pesticide-free food is already part of our daily lives, we believe that offering quality food is a way of sharing health and well-being", he says. "In the afternoon, when they are at home, they water, remove the weeds that grow in the garden and, when new seedlings arrive, they help plant, harvest and pack them, participating in all stages", he says. "As we live on the farm, contact with nature is already part of their lives, and they really enjoy it", highlights the mother. In front of Grandma's house, where there is a lot of traffic, they sell some of their food on Saturdays and, when products are available, also on Sundays. The initiative won over customers who followed the project and placed orders for the products. After publicizing it on social media, they also obtained support from a rural producer, with a three-month sponsorship as a form of incentive. For Ariane, the main lesson left by the experience is related to the dedication and values ??learned by her daughters. "I think this experience teaches us to value work. I see that they are more responsible. Without struggle, there is no achievement", he says.
