Show inspired by homophobia case in Nova Friburgo opens Usina Viva program this Saturday

The play was born from an episode of homophobia experienced by Dugin and his boyfriend during a seventh-day mass, in Nova Friburgo, in 2023. The case had national repercussions and motivated the artist to transform the experience into a scenic investigation into fear, silence and acceptance. "The show doesn't just talk about sexuality. It talks about the silent pacts we make to fit in. About the versions of ourselves we invent to avoid rejection, violence or abandonment", says Bernardo Dugin. Despite starting from a personal experience, the show expands the discussion to reflect on the social mechanisms that lead people to hide aspects of their identity in order to be accepted. According to director João Fonseca, the production seeks to discuss social structures, and not point out blame. "What interests me about 'Hétero Sigilo' is that it doesn't point out individuals, but exposes a structure. The play talks about the emotional price one pays to survive within a norm," he said. Phenomenon on the networks and on stages "Hétero Sigilo" debuted in Rio de Janeiro and quickly became one of the highlights of the LGBTQIAPN+ theatrical production in the capital of Rio de Janeiro. After sold-out seasons, the show returned to the stage in a new season and also gained repercussion on social media, where content related to the project accumulated millions of views. Before its debut in theaters, the project was developed on different platforms, including the installation "Caixa do Sigilo", created during the São Paulo LGBTQIAPN+ Pride Parade, where visitors shared anonymous reports about experiences lived in secret.
