Roberto Cidade gives his first speech as governor of Amazonas Patrick Marques/g1 AM The governor of Amazonas, Roberto Cidade (União Brasil), launched this Tuesday (7) his pre-candidacy for state government in the 2026 elections. The announcement took place during an event by the União Progressista federation, formed by the União Brasil and Progressistas parties, in Manaus. The ceremony was held on Rua Nossa Senhora da Constelação, in the Adrianópolis neighborhood, Central-South Zone of the capital, and was attended by political leaders from the party. Roberto Cidade was elected governor of Amazonas in May 2026, in an indirect election held by the Legislative Assembly of Amazonas (Aleam), where he was deputy and president of the house. The choice occurred after the resignation of then governor Wilson Lima (União Brasil) and vice-governor Tadeu de Souza (Progressistas), who launched pre-candidacies for Senate and Federal Deputy, respectively. ? Born in Manaus, Roberto Cidade is 39 years old and began his political career in 2016, when he ran for councilor in the capital. In 2019, he assumed the mandate of state deputy and, the following year, he was elected president of Aleam, becoming the youngest parliamentarian to command the House. In 2022, he was re-elected state deputy with 105,510 votes, the highest vote in the history of Amazonas for the position. In the same period, he was reappointed to the presidency of the Legislative Assembly. In 2024, Cidade ran for Mayor of Manaus and received 187,566 votes. He also took over the municipal directory of União Brasil in the capital. With the launch of the pre-candidacy, Roberto Cidade joins the names expected to run for government of Amazonas in the 2026 elections.
