The 6 de Agosto neighborhood, in the Second District of Rio Branco, celebrates 122 years of creation this Thursday (6) with a special program that includes community breakfast, dominoes, cards, football and even snooker tournaments, as well as free bingos. The region, which was one of the first neighborhoods in the capital, was named in reference to the armed conflict between Brazil and Bolivia over the territory of Acre. The date also commemorates 124 years since the beginning of the dispute. ? The festivities are scheduled to start at 7am and continue until midnight on the 7th, when there will be a fireworks display. The conflict originated in the dispute over the exploitation of latex, which since the 1870s had attracted migrants from the Northeast to the area then called “Aquiry”. The clashes continued until 1903, when Acre was incorporated into Brazil after the Treaty of Petrópolis.
