Police car siren G1 Residents of the Santa Rita Bezerra passage, in the Umarizal neighborhood, in Belém, report a wave of thefts, robberies and invasions of properties in the area. According to them, crimes have intensified in the last two weeks and have even occurred during the day, causing fear among those who live and travel in the region. Last Sunday, a security camera recorded one of the actions. The images show three teenagers running through the passage shortly after a woman had her purse snatched away. In another angle, one of the suspects appears throwing an object on the ground before fleeing towards Almirante Wandenkolk Street. "They were already sitting there, waiting for anyone. They were calling people to carry out the robbery", reported a resident, who preferred to remain anonymous. Residents say that the suspects usually act in groups, surrounding the victims and taking advantage of moments of distraction to commit thefts. "It's not an armed robbery. It's a group of people who arrive pulling their bags and running away," said another resident. In addition to the robberies on the street, images taken by a resident also recorded an attempted invasion of a property. A merchant on the crossing said that his establishment was invaded twice. According to him, tools such as a polisher and sander were taken, causing an estimated loss of R$18,000. "You make a complaint and it doesn't arrive. This has turned into a real crackpot," he said. The situation had already been reported by residents in 2023, when the region was facing problems with robberies and break-ins. At the time, tents set up by homeless people were removed with support from the Military Police. Now, residents say they avoid staying on the street. "We hardly stay out of the house because there are a lot of robberies," said a resident. Another complained about the lack of measures. "No one comes here to take action, in the middle of Doca de Souza Franco." In a note, the Civil Police informed that the incidents recorded in Umarizal are investigated by the Commerce Section and reinforced that the population can pass on information through the Hotline, at number 181, with a guarantee of secrecy. The Military Police reported that it was not contacted through official emergency channels nor is there a formal record of incidents, but stated that policing is carried out permanently in the region. ?
