PF and Navy seize drugs on vessel in the Atlantic with support from US agencies

The Federal Police (PF) and the Brazilian Navy carried out, on Tuesday (7), a joint operation against international drug trafficking in international waters, off the coast of Suriname. The action included the collaboration of United States agencies, through the sharing of intelligence information. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the American anti-drug agency, and the Joint Interagency Task Force South (JIATF-South), a task force linked to the United States Southern Command, participated in the cooperation.

During the operation, teams from the PF and the Navy, embarked on a Patrol Ship from the Command of the 4th Naval District, based in Belém (PA), approached a fishing vessel. Drugs were found at the scene. The amount seized will still be released after the material checking and weighing procedures have been completed. The vessel and crew were referred to the procedures provided for in Brazilian legislation and international cooperation agreements. According to the PF, investigations continue to identify others involved and clarify the circumstances of the case.
