Paraná uses artificial intelligence to help treat cancer Paraná is the first state in the country to test the use of an artificial intelligence (AI) tool for diagnosing and combating cancer. The technology is being tested in hospitals in Guarapuava, in the central region, and Londrina, in the north of the state. It works like this: the doctor shares the patient's clinical history and the platform cross-references the information with cases around the world. The system then organizes the data and points out paths for processing. The intention of the so-called "Capricorn Project" is to make care faster and more accurate for patients served by the Unified Health System (SUS). ? Follow the g1 PR channel on WhatsApp Nelson Morozini, an oncologist from Guarapuava, explains that in a traditional search, important studies may not be found in the medical literature simply because different words were used to describe the same disease. "What would take days or weeks we can achieve in a few minutes, so it helps us to have the main information on cases similar to those of patients around the world to compare with our patient", explains Nelson Morozini, an oncologist from Guarapuava. The use of the platform is the result of a partnership between the Government of Paraná and Google. Expansion to other regions will depend on the results obtained in Guarapuava and Londrina - where the tool has already been used for more than 40 patients since April. One of them is truck driver Cleverson Ramos de Col, who lives in Candói, 75 kilometers from Guarapuava. He hits the road every week to treat a cancer that he discovered in November 2025. In his case, considered extremely rare, the treatment was helped by artificial intelligence. "We found other similar cases in the world literature, which guided us to the genetic issue and genome research in relation to the patient, which brings more assertiveness to the case", points out doctor Nelson. For the truck driver, being able to repeat the treatment of another similar case that had positive results is a reason for hope. "It gives us security. For me, it was very good news, very pleasant. [...] What made me happiest is seeing that the medication I was taking is what the platform recommended, so this gives us very positive energy", says Cleverson.
