Federal Police Base in Tabatinga, in the interior of AM Disclosure The Federal Public Ministry (MPF) contacted the Federal Court and asked for urgent measures to reinforce the number of personnel at the Federal Police Station in Tabatinga, in the interior of Amazonas. According to the agency, the unit, located on the triple border between Brazil, Colombia and Peru, faces a lack of servers, a backlog of investigations and the risk of paralyzing essential services. The action was filed against the Union and requests the emergency restoration of the police station's staff. According to the MPF, the number of delegates in the unit fell from five, in 2023, to just two in 2026. The body states that the reduction in personnel caused work overload. The number of ongoing investigations increased from 95, in 2024, to 141 in March 2026. As a result, the average number of procedures under the responsibility of each delegate increased from 19 to more than 70. ? The situation has caused delays and interruptions in investigations considered important.

Among the cases affected by the overload is an investigation into the disappearance of indigenous children who were allegedly taken abroad. In the action, the Public Ministry also questions the distribution of Federal Police personnel. The organization highlights that, in June 2026, new police stations were announced in the municipalities of Tefé and Humaitá, in Amazonas, and in Itaituba, in Pará, with the use of recently trained civil servants. For the MPF, expanding the presence of the Federal Police in the region is important, but should not compromise the functioning of existing units considered strategic, such as Tabatinga, as it is located in a border area. What the MPF asks Among the requests presented to the Court, the MPF requests that the Union present, within 15 days, a detailed diagnosis of the current situation of the Federal Police Station in Tabatinga, including the number of active employees. The body also requests that the minimum number of five delegates be provisionally reestablished within a period of up to 30 days. In addition, it requires the adoption of emergency measures to guarantee the functioning of notary services and to continue inquiries that have been stopped for more than 60 days. In case of non-compliance, the MPF requests a daily fine of R$5,000. Finally, the action requests that the Union prepare and execute, within 180 days, a definitive plan to size the necessary staff and ensure the proper functioning of the police station on the triple border.
