MP investigates overpricing in R$1.9 million contract for planting grass in Cariri do Tocantins

City Hall of Cariri do Tocantins Disclosure/City Hall of Cariri do Tocantins The City Hall of Cariri do Tocantins is being investigated for administrative improbity due to the contracting of services and supply of grass for the amount of R$ 1,931,517.60. According to the Public Ministry (MP), there are signs of overbilling, in addition to contradictions in the documents presented by the municipality. In a note, the city hall informed that the contract was signed during the administration of former mayor Júnior Marajó and that it is carrying out an internal survey to gather all the information requested by the MP. Full note from the City Hall of Cariri do TO The Municipal City Hall of Cariri do Tocantins, through the Municipal Attorney General's Office, makes it public to clarify that the contract subject to the Preparatory Procedure established by the Public Ministry of the State of Tocantins (MPTO), resulting from Electronic Auction No. 008/2024, was celebrated and executed during the administration of former mayor Júnior Marajó (2021–2024), having not been signed by the current administration. Since the beginning of the investigation, the current management has acted with absolute transparency and in strict compliance with the principles of legality and institutional collaboration, providing the Public Prosecutor's Office with all the information and documents available in the Municipality's archives, remaining available to take all necessary steps. Regarding the documentation relating to the execution of the contract, the Municipality informed the Public Prosecutor's Office that certain documents, such as measurement reports, photographic reports and inspection records, were not located in the administration's files. In view of this, the current management has been carrying out internal surveys to gather all possible information and fully meet the requests of the ministerial body. The City Hall emphasizes that the initiation of the Preparatory Procedure does not represent any condemnation or conclusion regarding the existence of irregularities. This is an investigation phase aimed at investigating the facts and clarifying the information presented. The current administration is fully interested in the complete elucidation of the case and trusts in the work of the control bodies. If, at the end of the investigations, irregularities, possible fraud or damage to public property resulting from the execution of the contract are found, the City Hall defends that all applicable legal measures be adopted to hold those involved accountable and provide due compensation to the public treasury, in accordance with current legislation.
