'Shrimp Festival' in Afuá installs LGBTQIA+ bathroom. Reproduction/Social media The installation of a bathroom aimed at the LGBTQIA+ public in the city of Afuá, in the Marajó archipelago, in Pará, had repercussions on social media this Saturday (25). The bathroom was set up for the 42nd Shrimp Festival, which started last Thursday (23) and continues until Sunday (26). One of the regulars recorded a video of the initiative - see above. ? Click and follow the g1 PA channel on WhatsApp According to Afuá City Hall, the idea came from the Department of Tourism as a way to promote inclusion as the municipality receives a large number of visitors from the LGBTQIA+ public. The municipal administration also informed that the measure is not unprecedented and has been adopted for around seven or eight years. “It was a way that the city council found to please our visitors and residents”, informed the municipal management. Some users "praised" the proposal and "congratulated" the organization of the event. Others, however, criticized the measure, saying it could amount to "segregation." According to the city hall, the Shrimp Festival lasts four days and brings together thousands of visitors from different regions of Brazil.
